Right now, we can toggle the labels of individual layers on/off via one of multiple methods. We can also toggle the individual classes of labels within those layers, as well.
But if you need to toggle multiple labels at once, this can often prove a pain. There's a similar idea on these boards here that covers a wide variety of cases, but I'm frequently finding myself with a much more global toggle, sometimes.
The Idea:
What I'm envisioning is something akin to the PAUSE button in the bottom right corner of the map view that temporarily halts drawing of all elements in that view, but having a button like that that only affects labels. Where the button is doesn't matter so much to me, though. The goal is to briefly turn off all labels on all layers, then return to the combination of active and inactive labels I had before, when I click the button a second time.
Use Case 1:
I'm working on a project right now that involves the need to see a lot of attribute data at-a-glance for all the assets in my current view, and the cleanest way to do that so far has been with a label pulling said attribute data. Because there's a lot of data in these labels, though, it means sometimes they obscure things in the aerial imagery beneath them.
Right now, that means lots of finicky panning around to get the labels to move out of the way, or clicking each problematic layer and temporarily toggling its labels. Also because of the nature of the project, most of these layers are nested 2–3 levels down in group layers, which makes it more tedious.
A lot of the time, I just end up having to turn off the whole top-level group layer holding these assets, but then I can't quickly compare the geometry against what I'm seeing in the imagery, so it's less than ideal.
The Map and Labeling ribbons include a Pause labeling button that stops labeling but still allows the layers to draw.
