Create Templates are not copied when you paste properties to a layer in a different map. Also If you have any templates in the layer they get wiped out when you paste properties.

It would be nice if you had an option to copy templates from one map to another. It gets kind of old to keep creating create templates in maps.

Hello and thank you for reaching out. Am I correct that you are referring to feature creation templates? If so, you may have unearthed a bug, because those templates should go along for the ride with Paste Properties. We are not able to reproduce the issue.  Can you share a layer package or project package with us so we can investigate further? Thank you.

Miralem_Zeljo

We could get on a screen share if you wish. I was able to reproduce the issue the other day. The way that create templates are being handled could be better. I would be nice to save templates and reimport them as needed. While paste properties would be a nice option to copy templates from another feature as needed. I know this can be a bit buggy depending on way data is set up but yeah. Sorry due to sensitivity of the data I am unable to share the dataset I was working with.

@Miralem_Zeljo  FWIW, You can use the Undo button to recover your editing templates.

I also wanted to point out that you can Copy/Paste editing templates between layers from one map to another using Copy Templates in the Manage Templates pane. Please give this a try.

Thanks for your feedback about being able to "Save templates and reimport them as needed". Could you clarify what you mean by this?

@Miralem_Zeljo To confirm, are you copying and pasting all properties (as outlined here: Copy all properties)? And are the feature creation templates pasted properly when you copy and paste within a map but not when you paste into a different map? Copy and paste all should bring the layers feature creation templates in both cases. That is what we see here in our testing. If this isn't what is happening for you, I suggest contacting technical support to see if we can narrow down what is causing this within the paste properties workflow.

Miralem_Zeljo

I will contact technical support. Just wanted some visibility here as well. We would like to be able to save template by layer like we can save layer file and re-import it for each layer individually. JMutunga, tx for sharing copy templates by map I will play with that option to see if it will give me desired results. It would be nice to have the same ability by individual layers.

@Miralem_Zeljo Thanks.

I'm summarizing here so we are clear on the next steps:

  • You will raise a Support ticket to investigate potentially unexpected behavior when pasting Layer Properties
  • Explore Copy Templates tool
  • I've changed the title of this idea to capture your request to be able to copy/paste templates between layers. The editing team is working on improving this experience in a future release.
