Edit text formatting of multiple dynamic text values within one text box (Layout)

I'm stringing together several dynamic text values in one text box on my layout. Unfortunately, when I go to select just one of them to make it bold, I am unable to do so. It appears as a single dynamic text string instead of multiple. You cannot make these types of text symbol edits via the pane, either. You have to select the subset of text on the layout and use the ribbon controls. This means that my dynamic text all has to have the same appearance - very undesirable. I'm going to have to make separate text boxes, which will leave random spaces on some map series pages.

Why not just add text formatting tags on either side of the dynamic text square?

@AlfredBaldenweck  thanks for the tip, would still be much better for it to work like everything else. Weird to have to follow one set of rules for one kind of text and another for another.
