I always forget when I'm in an edit session. Please change the background of the menu area to green or blue anytime the Edit Session is on.
While this change will not be made in ArcMap, it is a valid idea for editing sessions in ArcGIS Pro.
I work in utilities, we'll be on ArcMap for a long while. It would be really nice to get this included in 10.5 and above.
