A recurring demand is the ability to better interact with layouts in ArcGIS Pro. We feel the need for a more robust report generation option, one that allows us to insert our maps and have a dynamic visualization of the pop-ups linked to our map data.

For instance, when clicking on a point in the PDF, a pop-up would open. This would greatly optimize the visualization of maps containing a large volume of information in their attribute tables.

While we know there are third-party plugins (such as GeoPDF Publisher), but a native Esri solution would be more appropriate.

It sounds like you're looking for an enhanced way to generate interactive reports and maps in ArcGIS Pro, specifically with the ability to link map data to dynamic pop-ups when viewing in formats like PDFs. While third-party solutions like GeoPDF Publisher offer some functionality in this regard, it would certainly be ideal to have a native Esri solution for better integration with ArcGIS Pro.

Here are some approaches and ideas on how you might be able to achieve similar results within the Esri ecosystem, even if it's not fully native yet:

  • GeoPDFs in ArcGIS Pro provide limited interactive pop-up capabilities but are generally not as flexible as a web-based approach.
  • For truly interactive pop-ups, you might want to explore creating web maps or web apps using ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, or ArcGIS Experience Builder, which allow for more dynamic user interactions.
  • If you're looking for more robust and automated reporting, leveraging ArcGIS Notebooks or Python scripting to generate reports is a viable option, though the interactivity will generally be lost in static formats like PDFs.
  • Feature Requests: If this functionality is critical, consider submitting a feature request to Esri for better native support for interactive pop-ups in exported reports.
