Like in Xtools, make, in Update Data Source, the choice of leaving, like now, in Contents order or by source.
In Source view, it's easier to look at and, can make the change of the database a breeze by pointing to the new database instead of very old DOS like way to do recherche and replacement.
Thanks for the Idea @MarcelSt-Germain ,
I want to make sure I understand your idea.
Right now, the ability to update the data source of a layer is available through the catalog view, and not the data source tab of the contents pane.
You're asking for an enhancement to the contents pane that would allow you to access this directly from the data source tab.
Is that a correct understanding?
To be clear, you stick on 25 years old DOS way of doing things. Find and replace in place of graphic navigation in the window's explorer (available only to layers one by one.
In Pro, you have a choice of the way Pro present things or, by source. Here a screen capture in arcmap since with to main bug in Pro 3x, I'm waiting to reinstall Xtools.
You can see, the presentation is by source. First you can see if, for one source, you have all links ok. Also, if I want to move from Marine_High to Marine_Med, I only have to select the database line (that's select all layer inside), use the window's explorer to select the new database. The new datasource is show at the right. No find and replace.
Hope this time is clear.

In Xtools, you have...
Sorry, Post Options doesn't work to make change for me.
@MarcelSt-Germain Would the ability to sort (ascending or descending) the Current Path column provide the grouping ability you're referring to with this idea? Like in this quick example below, if I were able to sort, then I could see all content from C:\Data\ArcTutor - Copy\... grouped together.
That is what I'm understanding from your idea, "make, in Update Data Source, the choice of leaving, like now, in Contents order or by source."
If that is the case, we need to update this idea's Title so that it is more descriptive -> Update Data Sources: allow user to sort Current Path.
Let me know if that is what you are looking for here. Thanks
Not sure if you understand correctly.
In your exemple, you have all exclusive path. It's not what I'm talking about.
By, grouping by source leave us the ability to change the main datasource by the modern way of navigating to the new database instead of making find and replace.
In my exemple, I could easily change the path of (bleu line)
Z:\Data_New\Marine\Final\CA47.gdb
to
Z:\Data_New\Marine\Merged\Marine_E_High.gdb just by pointing to this new database.
By doing so, all included layer are automatically change from CA47.gdb to Marine_E_High at once.
Easy, clear, simple. Doesn't understand why Xtools offer this for decade but not basic ESRI support.
This datasource manager with the go to in Bing and Google maps are the main use, for me, of Xtools.
