My idea would be to allow for multiple selected Cartographic Representations that have the same Representation Rule to be edited in the same fashion. While this may not produce the exact desired effect for all of the representations, it may take care of a large percentage of them, allowing for only a limited amount to go through the individual editing, instead of having to edit each specific representation to achieve the same goal.
ArcGIS Desktop retired March 1, 2026 so we won’t be considering this idea. We recommend that you migrate to ArcGIS Pro, our fully supported desktop GIS application.
Cartographic Representations are deprecated and not supported in ArcGIS Pro. They can be displayed when imported from ArcMap, but cannot be modified. We recommend converting representations to layer symbology, move overrides into attributes where needed, and continue cartographic work using ArcGIS Pro’s symbol model.
Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas. We truly appreciate your contributions to continuously improving the software to help you do your work and look forward to what ideas you have for ArcGIS Pro.
Hi @ValeriaChavez ,
I appreciate your comment, that said I was hoping that someone would have actually commented on this from ESRI when my post was relevant in 2010 when I originally posted it.
We have sinced moved on from cartographic representations due to the product not continuing and migrated to ArcGIS Pro 8 years ago.
Thanks again for your time,
Eric Creighton
