The European INSPIRE directive is based on GML - it would be nice to be able to load GML (Inspire GML) directly into the Mapframe of ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap like it is possible with QGIS without having to use Interop-Ext. and comverting the data.

GML (Geography Markup Language) is a core OGC standard and a mandated exchange format in many national and international geospatial workflows (e.g., INSPIRE in Europe, cadastral data exchange in Australia, and utility data integration worldwide). At present, ArcGIS Pro does not support GML natively, forcing users to rely on external tools such as FME or GDAL. This creates barriers in government and enterprise environments where GML is a requirement, not an option.

Native GML support in ArcGIS Pro would:

  • Align ArcGIS Pro with international standards and open data mandates.

  • Ensure full data fidelity when reading/writing GML.

  • Eliminate reliance on third-party conversion tools.

  • Increase ESRI’s competitiveness in government and infrastructure sectors.

Given the strategic importance of interoperability and compliance with OGC standards, we urge ESRI to prioritize native GML read/write support in ArcGIS Pro as a critical upgrade.
