Applying simple symbology changes should be faster

If I make a simple symbology change, such as changing the symbol font size, it takes 13 seconds to for ArcGIS Pro to make the change. 

("Swamp" symbol)

13 seconds is too long. A simple setting change like that should happen instantly. Especially since the map display is paused.

For reference, ArcMap symbology changes happened instantly.

Could the performance be improved? Thanks.
