I'm excited about the new features in the October 2025 ArcGIS Online update.  I'm particularly interested in the Vector Offset.  I'm able to turn on and adjust the offset with the provided Vector Lines.

Is it possible to do it with custom line labels that I published from ArcGIS Pro Styles?  The option is not shown as seen in the second screen shot below.  Any suggestions or workarounds?  Thanks.

It is possible if the symbol layer(stroke or fills) has an offset effect. So in Pro if you published this symbol in a web style with an offset effect that isnt 0 (could be 0.001 for example) the offset gets written to the symbol structure and Map Viewer will honor this. Right now if you publish it from Pro with the 0 the effect is getting dropped. We are working with the Pro team to try and get that persisted in this scenario so the full symbol structure gets persisted across from Pro to Web in the web map, layer items and web styles.

Awesome.  Thanks for the solution.  The global offset worked on the two lines that make up this composite symbol but did not work with the vector marker.  I had to add the offset to the vector marker individually.  A minor inconvenience.  I then republished and the offset option is now available.  Thanks so much for the solution.  The offset effect is a great visualization option for showing multiple bicycle route distances.

The marker offset is different from the offset effect but I am looking into exposing marker offsets as well. Thanks for trying this out and your feedback!

I'm getting the behavior of the offset lines disappearing and reappearing on different zooms.  Here are a few screen shots to show the behavior.  These screen shots are from the map widget inside experience builder but the map viewer shows the same behavior.   I also tried this with a simple line instead of the compound three element of each line shown below that includes the color, white border and arrow and it has the same behavior.  Has anyone tried this and what has been your experience.  Thanks.

Zooming in creates a gap in the blue line.

Zooming further in the blue line reappears

Are you able to share the map/layer and I can take a look. You can pop it into a group and invite russell_jsapi to it.

Thanks!

More news on this issue.  I thought the problem may have been the result of using imported GPX files.  So using ArcGIS Pro, I manually redigitized (thanks for the trace feature) the lines.  Now I discovered another negative effect when using offset.  This time in ArcGIS Pro.  The first picture below is using a symbology without offset.

Changing symbology to a very small 0.00001pt offset so I can customize the offset in ArcGIS Online after publishing the line that extends to the left disappears.  Most of this portion of the line is on top of itself.

Going into edit mode you can see the vertices with the missing symbology.

Note, if I use offset without the complex symbology with arrows, this disappearance act does not happen.  So where is the threshold of it becoming a problem 😞

Has anyone else experienced this?

For the cutting off of lines - we have an open issue in the SDK and I've attached this report to it. Thanks for posting.

Russ, Thanks for adding my observations.

I investigated it further this morning in an effort to try to find a workaround and a desirable effect.  Not to belabor the issue, I'm providing additional observations.

In ArcGIS Pro, I symbolized the bike route as a single black line using the gallery line default of 1.0 pt.  In some places, the line doubles back on itself in a return route  Below is the line shown in ArcGIS Pro 3.6.1 and the Online version.

No offset

ArcGIS Pro with offset set at -4.  The effect works.

bkaplan1_3-1771087540736.png

I took the line in ArcGIS Pro Line and published it with offset set to 0.  Then on AGO, I checked the style. The default AGO symbol style was a vector line/Basic.  This default did not offer the option for offset.

When I changed the online symbol to a "Vector Line",  I got the offset option.  THIS MAY BE A NEW BEHAVIOR which I didn't get before. Previously, I had to publish with an offset to get this option.  So this new behavior is good.

However, when I change the offset to -4 I get the following with the gaps and with short lines running across the gap.

Not all the default symbology in AGO provide the offset feature.  For instance the blue gradient with arrow does not.

And using my custom symbology with offset = 0 the arrows in a couple of places point perpendicular to the line.  Perhaps there is a small line segment that needs cleaning.  In AGO, the left circled area looks like two lines but in Pro it looks like a single line.  I wish I could control the arrows better including the right circled area which has too many arrows but when I zoom in I get the double arrows (desired but not discernable enough) and gaps.

Zoomed in with no offset

And using my custom symbology with offset = -4 the gaps appear.
