Hi!

I am trying to geocode a table of addresses in ArcGIS desktop using the Esri World Geocode Service. I am signed in to our corporate ArcGIS Online account in the mxd (I can see our private maps and data). However, every time I or a co-worker tries to geocode, we get an error saying we need an ArcGIS Online subscription. I can geocode fine in ArcGIS Online via an internet browser, but I want to do it in desktop. What is going on?

Thanks!

Hi,

For some reason the basic locator in ArcMap named "World Geocode Service (ArcGIS Online)" does not work.

So if you want to geocode with your Organizational Account do the following:
- In the Catalog window choose GIS Servers and click on Add ArcGIS Server

- Choose Use GIS Services. For Server URL type http://geocode.arcgis.com/arcgis/services and use your ArcGIS Online credentials.

- On the Geocoding toolbar click on <Manage Address Locators...> >> Add... >> Find the locator (World) in the service you added earlier.

Use this geocoding service to geocode locations. It consumes 40 credits / 1000 geocodes.

Do you have an organizational account or a basic free account? I think you need an Organizational account for that.

Yep, we have a full-blown organizational account.

You are also signed in to your account within your mxd?
