Problem when publishing 3D scene - data gets twisted

Occasionally, when I try to publish 3D scene data to AGOL, my models get twisted:
Workflow:
I manage the multipatch in ArcGIS Pro in a state plane projection. I change to Mercator and publish online. 99.9% of the time it's ok, but sometimes it gets all twisted like that.
Any idea why that might be happening?
