Currently, when importing a CSV the lat and longs need to be in decimal degrees. Does any one know of a way to import a CSV with lat and long in DMS? Using Pro is not an option. Are there any custom widgets that will aide this?

import your coordinates into excel and do the conversion there (dd = Deg + min/60 + sec/3600 )

For future reference Pro has this capability Coordinate Table To Point (Defense)—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation

but it doesn't appear to be in ArcMap's version

Hi Dan

This would be a bit of a last resort. Was hoping someone knew of a custom import widget specifically for DMS. The geometry service allows conversion between DD and DMS, wonder if something can be built utilising this service to publish DMS directly?

Jessica,

Have you tried ArcGIS for Office?  You can download it from here: https://www.esri.com/en-us/arcgis/products/arcgis-for-office/download

With ArcGIS for Office, I was able to plot DMS onto a map within Excel and then publish it to AGOL from there.  The only catch was that the Lat and Long had to be in separate columns.

Thanks,

Brynda

Hi Brynda,

Thanks so much for the help doc. This is is a great quick fix solution, but the goal would still be a custom widget within Portal to read and spatialise DMS from a spreadsheet.

Thanks again,
Jess

Jess,

Since you're asking for a new feature, can I suggest you post your idea to the Ideas page? https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-online-ideas/idb-p/arcgis-online-ideas

The development team takes customer's ideas into consideration when planning new work.

Thanks,

Brynda
