Changing Projection in AGOL

Hi!

I run into several problems when trying to post maps to AGOL in the projection I want, and/or to change the projection. I know I'm supposed to keep these posts to one question but they all go together in this case. I've found a few other posts about this, but they don't answer my questions.

I have found these directions but they don't work for me: https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-online-blog/changing-the-map-projection-in-arcgis-online/ba-p/1...

1. I have tried adding a layer to AGOL and then using that as a basemap, but it never works. I add a shapefile to my content that is defined in the projection I want. I start a new, empty map in AGOL. I add the layer I want to use as my basemap, but the option to "Use as basemap" that I have seen in the tutorials never appears anywhere.

2. How do I find a url link that has the projection I want??? I have not been able to accomplish this either. I try to use localized projections whenever possible and they're the hardest to find. My standby is NAD UTM Zone 13N because many of my maps are focused on Colorado, but I have not been able to find a url that displays this. I have tried searching for specific projection names, I have looked for instructions on how to find them, but nothing.

3. I like to create my maps in Pro and then post them to AGOL when ready to share. I have created maps in which all of my layers are in the projection I want and the map displays as I want it to. But there are three problems: a) Pro won't let me share a map w/out a basemap. b) Pro won't let me share a map unless the projection of the basemap matches the projection of the layers. c) I cannot change the projection of the basemap.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!

I haven't worked with custom basemaps in a while, but I think the layer has to be some sort of cached layer (vector tiles would work best in your case) and it has to be shared to your org's custom basemap gallery. Once you do that all layers added to that map should be projected on the fly to the basemap's coordinate system. You should also be able to pick that from the basemap gallery in Pro and any web maps you share should work.

I added a PDF I created with comments and there is a youtube video showing a good workflow for publishing custom basemaps with your specific projection.

Also if your are referreing to publishing layers in a certain projeciton, do them individually and make your map online. This allows your layers to be pushed out in your specific projection.
