Is anyone able to tell me how I can change the field names of a layer in a map. I have already created a map with several layers and now I want to change some field names in the corresponding table of contents. I don't see any opportunity to do this. The field names have to be changed in order to create an application. I would be thankful, if somebody could help me.

depends where the layer was created, it probably has to be created at source, like in arcmap

Hi Karoline,

You could also change it in ArcCatalog > Properties of the Feature class > Fields.

You can not change the layer properties in Table of Contents of ArcMap. But you can change the alias name in it.

Hi Karoline Wagner , you have placed this question in the ArcGIS Online place. If it referes to Desktop, the answers above will do. If you are referring to a WebMap, you may want to read up on this topic:

Configure pop-ups—ArcGIS Online Help | ArcGIS (the part that refers to configuration of the attributes)
