call rest service from arcgisonline

is it possible to call a rest service from ArcGIS online and display the result?

My thought was to call the service by clicking a hyperlink in a popup.  I would like topull an id value from the pop-up and pass that value as a parameter to the service.  Ideally I could display the result  in the pop up.

Hi Pete,

1. From a web map, you can do Add(+) > Add Layer from Web > paste your URL (rest service) in the given box.

2. In a configurable application (Web App Builder) you can add the Add Data widget which could allow your users to add a layer using a service URL.
