Is there a reason why when I switch between basemaps using the basic viewer app that it is very very sluggish. And then when I zoom in with the aerial basemap it disappears. Is this a known issue? Is anybody else experiencing this? This makes the app very frustrating for our field guys to use. Is there anything i can try to improve this.

here is the url to a test basic viewer application that I made for you to look at. I re-projected our streets basemap to web mercator like you suggested and still getting real poor performance. At first I thought maybe it had something to do with my other layers. But as you will see this one has just our basemap and it is still not working properly. http://nwwsd.maps.arcgis.com/apps/Viewer/index.html?appid=031ee7d8c5c9479ea1cf11249d5b5943

Thanks for your help with this.

Just as a side note. Apparently I am doing something wrong when I either publish the basemap or add it to AGO as a basemap and use that as my default because I tried another App. (Map tools) and I am experiencing the same results. So not sure what I am doing to cause the online basemaps and my basemap not to play nice with each other.

The performance issues could be happening because your base map is not a cached (tiled) map service resource.  In the JSAPI reference the last sentence in the description section notes that for best performance it is recommended that all layers added to the base map gallery are cached.

Ok. Thanks Kelly. I will try that and see how it goes. Thanks again for all your help
