I've created a simple arcgis online map which shows the locations and dates of a band's tour. Initially, I loaded these locations from a shapefile, and the attributes include tour date, venue, and ticket URLs. You can see the map at http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=d87096dbeaaa474aab4390355e9bbc51.

As the tour progresses, I am deleting past shows. This is easy. However, as new shows are added, I am using the EDIT button to add new locations. Unfortunately it won't allow me to edit the attributes of these new locations, e.g. the ones in South America. The attribute headers appear correctly when I add the point but the boxes for the values are greyed-out. Am I doing something wrong or does this functionality not yet exist?

Thanks

For some reason, editing is disabled on all fields. Configure the popup, and click Configure Attributes button and enable editing. Did you disable field edits? Or maybe there is some bug here.

Hi Mike

Thank you for your reply. I took your advice and configured the popups so that all the visible fields were editable. I then went to the Edit function to edit the fields for one of the points but unfortunately they are still greyed-out.  Going back to the popup configurator shows that the check boxes to allow edits are all unchecked again so it doesn't look like my configuration is being saved. Perhaps it's a bug after all.

Thanks

I think you may have forgotten to click the "save popup" button at the bottom of the popup panel after formatting the fields for editing. I tried this myself and it worked.

Thanks,

I am experiencing a similar behavior and I believe it is some sort of bug where the changes to what is allowed to be edited are not saving. I have a map that I created that I want to disable editing on and was unable to save the changes in the pop-up to what fields are editable using Firefox 9.0.1. When using IE 9 I am able to get the changes to save, but it doesn't seem to work 100% of the time. I think that there may be a bug that prevents the edit ability of a field from properly saving.

I am also having a similar problem.  I added a layer from a shapefile and was able to get the edit properties within the pop-up to save but I want to disable editing for the layer.  I clicked on the arrow next to the layer and then selected 'disable editing' and then saved the map.  However, when I log out and then search for the map and view it, editing is enabled again.  The user can add or delete points and configure the pop-up to make fields editable again.  Is there another way to go about this so that I can make the map public but not allow viewers to edit the spatial or attribute information?

Thanks!

Carolyn,

Can you try to disable editing again? It should work. We updated the site yesterday to fix this problem.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Thank you for the reply!  I just checked and it looks like the problem is perhaps half fixed?  The option to allow editing to the attributes within the configuration panel are gone, which is great.  However, I clicked on the arrow next to the layer again and selected 'disable editing', saved the map, and logged out, but when I view the map again, editing is still enabled and you can add new points, you just can't give them any attribute information.

Is there another way to disable the ability to add or delete points that I'm missing?

Thanks,
Carrie
