In our organisation, usage metrics are essential for understanding how the public engages with our data. We track views and requests on every publicly shared item to support data custodians and measure the value of our investment in open data.

Most of our datasets are authored in ArcGIS Enterprise and then shared through a distributed collaboration to ArcGIS Online, where they are published on our ArcGIS Hub site. As part of normal maintenance, we sometimes need to un-share and re-share items in the collaboration, for example:

  • When items become unresponsive and stop syncing from Enterprise to Online, the only reliable fix is to temporarily un-share and re-share it to the collaboration group
  • When ownership changes are required for items that still need to participate in the collaboration.

It would greatly improve our workflow if ArcGIS Online could:

  • Preserve usage metrics when an item with the same item ID is un-shared and re-shared within a distributed collaboration
  • Or allow users to export and import usage metrics so they can be restored after maintenance actions.

This would allow us to maintain stable, accurate usage reporting even when routine operational tasks temporarily remove an item from a collaboration.
