I have tried to run ArcGIS online from an ArcGIS home user installation on Windows XP and Windows 7 on my Mac with Virtualbox 4.3.2 running Mac OS X 10.9.1.  It hasn't worked for the last three months.    At the ESRI DC Federal conference, I see one of your presenters is able to use ArcGIS online on Parallels on a Mac.   Not everyone can afford Parallels.  From a training perspective, you need to allow Mac users to use a free virtualization solution on their Mac, such as Virtualbox that only costs a Windows license.    People who are getting educated have very limited resources in terms of spending.     And the Mac has become a key platform.       When I try to run ArcGIS online link from ArcGIS desktop, the application just crashes with an error the moment I select ArcGIS online from any menu, or submenu of the layers.   It asks me to report the error to ESRI.

Here's some information from the Esri Ed Community about working with ArcGIS on a Mac. There may be something here that will help.
