Right now ArcGIS Online (nor ArcGIS Pro) can't accept SVG files for use as a background image. This is quite limiting as many times vector graphics are needed to preserve colors, shading, etc of graphics provided by marketing teams. Converting to raster is not an option as blurriness is introduced or the graphic isn't preserved. Need to use these SVGs as background images in webmaps, apps like in experience builder, JS API, etc.
Natively accepting SVG files and then georeferencing them is the solution and would make my life so much easier.
Also can't create vector tiles if I can't even get the SVG into ArcGIS Online or Pro, so I can't speed up rendering on the web.
SVG files are available for inputting your own symbols/symbology on ArcGIS Online map viewer, if that is what you are referring to. In the Styles tab you would click the symbol, click "Basic point" and in the Category dropdown you can find "Uploaded Symbols" and upload SVGs directly.
@EmilyGeo you asked "thanks for sharing your idea. Can you explain what you mean by background image on your map? Do you have an example you can share?"
Yes by background image I'm referring to some type of reference/rendered image that sits below my data. Something like this:
