Hi There,

There isn't a Portal for ArcGIS group so I thought I'd trying posing a question here.  We have a need to extend the functionality of Portal for ArcGIS for one of our clients.  The map viewer meets almost all of their requirements but there may be a tool or two that we would want to add to it.  For example adding a shapefile to the map, printing the map as a pdf and even integration with geoportal.

I was wondering if there is any documentation or advice on how to go about doing this.  I see that the built in map viewer is all html and javascript so the source is there but I'm wondering if there is a recommended approach to adding or extending functionality, maybe in the form of a custom dijit or something like that.

Thanks,
David

Yo,
I think that Application Templates are your solution here. Note that I haven't tested this with portal but it should work.

Here are some links to get stated with:

Thanks for the reply but it's not an application (template) I want to customize, it's the Map Viewer itself.

Hello David,

Did you find a way out ?

not really,  You would have to hack into the portal code base and try to extend the functionality.  I've tried to steer my clients to expect all customizations to come in the form of a template
