Hi there,

My organization wants to create a few maps that will be interactive and viewable via phones (android, iphones, etc) and ipads.

We already have a solution using Geocortex (Silverlight) for browser which cannot display on most devices.
I've been looking into HTML5, Javascript and ArcGIS Online.

What I need is something that displays nicely for mobile use and that is easy to set up.

I do not come from a Comp Sci or development background so if there's already an existing interface that makes it easily to display for mobile I'd prefer that rather than messing with code.
The map would contain point features with hopefully a pop-up containing a picture and a short description of the property.

I'm pretty computer savvy but I'd like this to be as painless as possible.

Are there any other interfaces that exist that make this easier?

edit: The mobile map will be only for viewing purposing, no editing or capture

As an added bonus (but not mandatory), I've been looking into Story Maps and plan on using one in the future, specifically the Short List. However, I don't see this working out for a mobile device as its ery picture heavy and would crowd the display. If anyone has any other alternative ideas I'm open to them!

Thanks

Lauren,

Does your organization have an AGOL account? Do you need these maps to be secure or can they be publicly viewable? If you have an AGOL account,  You can create your map in AGOL, then under sharing you can use one of several templates that they offer. I am pretty sure that both the Baisc Viewer and the simple viewer are configured as responsive viewers. This means that they will adapt to the device you are using to view them (Desktop, Tablet or phone).  You'll want to make sure that the popup for your layer is configured to show your description and image.

We just recently acquired one, at the time of posting it was up in the air. The one thing about the basic viewers is that our organization would want custom workflows and searches, which I am not sure we can do with AGOL? For example, search by parcel #, owner name, list name of drains from a drop down, etc. Currently we use Geocortex as it's very userfriendly and comes with a workflow manager.

I do, however like what's coming down the pipeline on AGOL - and I'm sure these features will be added soon.

Lauren,

A good place to start is to take your existing Geocortex site and add an HTML5 viewer to it (in addition to the Silverlight viewer application that is already there). With a minimum of effort you should be able to get an initial mobile-friendly HTML5 version of your existing application.

Thanks Cam, We ended up doing just that! However, as it stands our users wanted a "prettier" interface, and ESRI Story maps was just that.
