Add 'UTC' hint text to Notebook Task Scheduler UI and documentation / Fix between hours for non-UTC

Scheduling a notebook task allows users to specify the period the task will run during the day.

It does not indicate that this will run in UTC and this is not specified in the documentation.

https://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/create-maps/prepare-a-notebook-for-automated-execution.htm

This is causing difficulty as users are scheduling tasks to run every 15 minutes during the overnight period in non-UTC timezones and it's not immediately apparent that this behaviour will occur.

It also means that in Australia we can't run things during business hours only as it's 'overnight' in UTC.

@RaviNarayanan saw you were across this on another post.

Currently time based scheduler is useless for some regions business hours

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Status changed to: Needs Clarification

Hello, thanks for asking about this.  Would it be possible for you to re-check if you are still having this issue?  We had a bug for this that was fixed in the ArcGIS Enterprise 11.4 release (and also the November 2024 AGOL release), which was after you posted this.

As I understand it, the bug was that the time values you entered in the "Edit task" UI (e.g. 7pm) were not being converted to UTC.  Therefore, the task scheduler treated these local time values as if they were the UTC times.

Please let us know if you are still having this issue.

thanks,

Hi everyone,

In our ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5 environment, the ArcGIS Notebook Server task scheduler always ignores the Between Hours option when scheduling tasks.

No matter which time range we set (for example, between 22:00 and 06:00), the scheduled notebooks run outside that window.

Also, I’ve noticed that it’s not possible to use both options at the same time — the Between Hours setting and the day-of-week schedule.
Is there any reason for this limitation, or is it a bug/expected behavior?

Has anyone else run into this? Is there any known issue or workaround?

Thanks in advance!

@NicholasGiner1 can you please clarify what the expected behaviour is now? Can the documentation be updated? Can the user interface make it clearer?

There were several defects submitted and resolved around the time this idea was submitted.

What I have is a lack of confidence or clarity around when the scheduled tasks will run. We had found that entering them in the Australian time zone, they were running overnight and not during the business hours as we desired. If this was a defect and resolved, I've no insight at all, as from my end user perspective the configuration and documentation is unchanged.

We also schedule notebooks for other regions which makes it exceptionally difficult to coordinate if it's converting the scheduling between the clients desktop + UTC.
