Service areas with physical barriers

Hello everyone,

I am doing this basic exercise: define some service areas with 500meters, 1000 meters and 1500 meters for random points. But I also want a way to define physical barriers (like rivers or railwasys). I've tried to use the restriction polygons of Network analyst "Make new service area", but at the end the result is the same with or without barriers.

Did you make the barriers like suggested in the tutorial???
