Dear all,

I realise that this is a complicated question, but could someone point me in the right direction for how I might build a Network dataset of the London Underground within ArcGIS 10 so that I can use the Network Analyst tools on it...?

Thanks

If by London underground you mean the map where all the rail lines are offset? Well you will have to establish connectivity with extra links for the transfer points. You could take a look at the Paris network in the Network Analyst tutorial on how to connect two different modes together. Just remember that the route solver does not have a way to honor the train schedules.

Hi again Jay,

So essentially I need a shapefile of points, and a shapefile of lines, and then follow the network analyst tutorial here?

(I realise I'm simplifying alot!)

Not to steal Jay's thunder, but yeah, that's about right.  I googled London Underground Shapefiles and found a download of the station locations (no .prj file though) Haven't come across the actual 'tubes' as they are known.

Hello everyone.  I just wanted to let you know about a new prototype tool from Esri's Network Analyst team which allows you to add GTFS public transit data directly to a network dataset.  You can use this network dataset with the Network Analyst tools to run time-aware analyses that incorporate the transit schedules.
You can download the toolset and instructions here:

Please do not hesitate to contact me at mmorang@esri.com with questions or comments about this toolset.
