hello and good morning all.
I am trying to create turn by turn directions for the snow plow drivers in my community. I have fought with (and lost) the battle with the Network analyst route solve process. I am now thinking that if I can drive and record the plow routes, I can then simply (ha ha) share the route I drove with the drivers using ArcGIS Navigator. Does anyone have experience doing this ?? Does anyone know if sharing those driven routes is possible in Navigator ??
Any advice, comments, or suggestions are welcome. Thanks,
Jarrett
Hi @JarrettLivesey1 ,
This is likely possible with a few steps, if I were going to give it a shot this is what I would do:
- Drive the routes with location sharing turned on in order to capture the routes.
- Take the results and convert them to polylines using Reconstruct Tracks
- Take each route and buffer it by a small amount, like 50 feet
- Set up your route analysis layer with all the stops for one route, using the buffered route polygon as a barrier. This should constrain the route to the path you drove.
- Share the resulting route layers to your ArcGIS Online organization.
- When the drive signs in to Navigator, they will see the pre-planned route layers.
This will likely take some trial-and-error, but I believe those steps will be a good starting point to get you the results you're looking for.
