While the monitoring of hosted services has been implemented and is available at Enterprise 11.1 the need to monitor the datastore itself including the standby is required to ensure that the health of the datastore is in a "healthy" state. We've found many instances with portal not working properly due to the state of the datastore but read only services work fine.
