The exisiting example, "Add Shapefile and Raster data sample" demonstrates how to render local raster files. However none of the symbology options available in ArcMap are exposed. The result is that many images look wrong (see tech support ticket for specifics) even though they do render properly in ArcMap.
Please expose those options. On a related notes, it would be helpful if you made an example that shows how to extend the raster support via GDAL's plugin architecture. I asked about this at the Dev Summit (2014) and Euan said it was there. At the time, I put in an issue here:
