I have created an excell worksheet but when 'joining' it to a map layer a few of the columns disappear, even though they have short titles and are formatted similarly to others which show. Where am I going wrong

What exactly do you mean by joining it to a map?  I can add your data to an arcmap session without any issue:

I need to join it to a feature. The columns which will not show are ref, N, Cella, Shop, Solar and rent_s
