ArcGIS online for personal use cannot be linked to ArcGIS Location Platform

Hi

The Problem:

  1. I have an ArcGIS account for personal use, which allows access to ArcGIS Online (AGOL), low-code application builders (EXB, WAB), and ArcGIS Pro for learning and exploration.
  2. I was previously using my personal AGOL account to host data and develop custom applications with the Esri JS 4.x API to stay updated with GIS and JavaScript technologies.

The Issue:

  1. Now, I can't link my personal AGOL account to your ArcGIS Location Platform (ALP) developer account. This means I can't use data hosted in my personal AGOL for development in ALP.

The Challenge:

  1. To develop with ALP, I had to create a separate, AGOL which by the way will expire account linked to ALP.
  2. This creates extra work, as I need to move data back and forth between my personal AGOL and the temporary ALP-linked one.

My Question:

  1. I question the value of a personal AGOL account if it can't be used for development and exploration with the ArcGIS Location Platform.

The personal ArcGIS Online subscription is not designed for application development, and you will find it lacks many resources required to build apps. It's purpose leans more toward learning GIS and ArcGIS Online.

For development you should start with an ArcGIS Location Platform account. This will give you all the required developer resources. It is free to start and offers a free tier for many location services. This account will not expire unless you do not use it for more than 12 months. The free tier refreshes each month.

You cannot link the two accounts. The only option to move your Personal account data over to the ArcGIS Location Platform account is to copy the data item by item. See https://support.esri.com/en-us/knowledge-base/how-to-transfer-content-from-one-arcgis-online-organiz... for a Python script or see ArcGIS Assistant https://guide.assistant.esri-ps.com/.

Thank you for the rapid response. I am unclear about the proposed solution. Are you suggesting custom application development using Esri JS 4.x with data hosted on ArcGIS Online? As you know, ArcGIS Online data can be accessed through webmaps or directly via feature services. Additionally, applications can be built using Esri Experience Builder, Web AppBuilder, or Instant Apps. Esri documentation indicates no functional differences between these methods, except for commercial use restrictions. Online documentation refers to this as   ArcGIS for personal use  Is there an official Esri document outlining limitations or providing a comparative analysis between ArcGIS for personal use and ArcGIS online for commercial use?

it is mostly detailed on this page: https://www.esri.com/en-us/arcgis/products/arcgis-for-personal-use/buy

while there is no functional difference, you cannot deploy your app with the Personal Use license.

I can't link my personal AGOL account to your ArcGIS Location Platform (ALP) developer account. This means I can't use data hosted in my personal AGOL for development in ALP.

this is correct, you cannot link the accounts.
