Upon using the map export tool more in the Instant App Sidebar tool, I found some areas of improvement and potential bugs/issues. I'm wondering if these can be resolved on the app creator end, and if not, I have ideas for legend improvements that I think can help all users, especially non-GIS users who want to make a quick map.
This feedback is specifically for Sidebar but may persist or affect other templates like Atlas, etc. that have mapping capabilities.
1. (Bug) Hashed polygons don't show up properly in the legend. It has a hashed boundary, but the legend shows a solid boundary.
2. (Enhancement) Layers or specific features that do not show up on the map are still displayed in the legend. Ideally there should be a way to allow the user to specify that legend should be dynamic based on map extent, or have that be in the setting for the app overall.
3. (Enhancement) Polygons symbolized based on different attributes should be displayed differently (ideally below or above the symbol). Currently the label is displayed within the box itself, but it can be difficult to read based on the colors.
I appreciate any assistance or support in improving the map & legend capabilities. While a great feature, it's a bit difficult to use or be applied on a larger scale in our organization otherwise.
Hi @Tiff
Thanks for reaching out about the export tool! Would you be able to share a screenshot of the hashed polygons not showing up correctly in the legend export?
For the second point, are the layers that aren't in the map but appear in the legend - are the layers out of view or is there a visibility range setting on the layer? Looking to get clarification on why the layer isn't displayed in the map. Also, when the layer isn't displaying in the map - does that layer still show in the legend tool in the app?
For the third point, would you be able to share a screenshot of what you are seeing?
Thanks!
Sarah
Hi @SarahMcDonald_Esri I sent you a private message as the maps are fairly specific. Please let me know if you have any questions or want to connect further!
A fourth bug/enhancement I would like to point out - there are credits at the bottom of the map, but it seems to only specifically highlight one of the layers in the map (Trail Units) and no other layers. I'm wondering how the credits are outputted. I thought it was whatever layer was at the top of the map, but since changing that, I noticed the credits were still the same. Perhaps there should be a way to customize the credits on the map layout.
Thank you!
