Relative Date Filter

What is the best practice for setting an advanced filter that will always find things like "last month" and "2 months ago" based on the current date?  I have tried certain things (like using the DateDif function) that only work in certain scenarios but not all scenarios.  It seems like there are some methods that work well in a sql query that just are't options with Insights.  Has anyone come across this or have a solution?

Unfortunately, the Advanced filter in Insights is limited to the datedif calculation and doesn't take SQL query. The other options would be to either use the Date and time filter or set up the page in a way where you can use a chart of Year and Month (could be a heat chart) and use cross filters on other charts you need to filter. You can use Ctrl+click to select multiple.
