Subset features - point sampling

Hello,

This is maybe a very simple question; does the subset features tool (arcgis 10) create a random or a systematic point layer? I`m looking for a tool that selects random points from a point layer. Hope someone can tell me how the subset features make the selection of points.

Any help to clear this out would be much appreciated!

I'm not quite sure what you mean by a "systematic point layer," but Subset Features is purely random.  It isn't doing any kind of stratified sampling or anything like that.  It just randomly partitions the points into two subsets.
