Basemap Layer v.10

In ArcMap v.10 I made a map, mxd file, that contains 3 layers:
  • Nodes (Points)
  • Polylines
  • Basemap

Points and Polylines do show correctly. However, the basemap does not show at all. To make the base map I just used one of the free maps from http://resources.esri.com/arcgisonlineservices/index.cfm?fa=content

I used that mxd file to make a new Mobile Service on ArgGIS server, v.10. Server did get created and started, no error message. When I do DownloadExtent to my local cache on a mobile device it just does not show the base map. Perhaps because I used online resource to make the basemap layer?

  1. Is there a way to use those maps from http://resources.esri.com/arcgisonlineservices/index.cfm?fa=content
  2. Do I have to have mxd file and all of the layers to be stored in a particular location?
  3. Does mxd file store path to layers as relative path or as a full path?
