It seems impossible in the new ArcGIS Mobile 10 App's (Desktop & Mobile) to select a exisitng feature (through Identify & Select) and then be able to move it's position.
Is this a limitation of the ArcGIS Mobile 10 ??? It really should be capable of some sort of Geometry moving!!!

Christine,

Here's a workaround you can try for your imagery problem.  You DO NOT need Server to be able to have imagery in your Mobile application.  I too was under this false impression for a while.  I did not see where this fact was explicitly stated in the help documentation but I tried it and it worked.  You can load your imagery into your existing .mxd and try to create the mobile cache and .amp file with the Create Mobile Cache tool OR I found it works better if you put the imagery in its own .mxd and use the Create Mobile Cache tool to push the imagery out to its own mobile cache and .amp file.  So, I have two separate folders to store the .amp files and mobile caches - one for my vector layers and one for my imagery.  As long as the folders where you output the mobile caches are different, the tool will not overwrite the existing cache.  The reason I created a separate .mxd for the imagery is so that I had the flexibility of changing my vector layers .mxd and running the Create Mobile Cache tool without having to wait for the imagery to cache again.  I output my imagery one time and never touched it again.  (NOTE - The Synchronize Mobile Cache tool ONLY synchronizes the actual cache and not the .amp file, so every time you need to change symbology, labels, etc. in your .mxd you have to run Create Mobile Cache again since it does both the cache and the .amp.  A tool for synchronizing changes between the .mxd and the .amp file is something I'd like to see ESRI address!!!)  In Mobile Project Center you can now add both mobile caches to the project and you're all set.  My imagery actually shows up as an Operational Layer rather than a Base Layer but it works.  The performance for a .jp2 mosaic of an entire county's imagery has been satisfactory for me so far.  Good luck!

Hi Denise,

we too would appreciate a out of the box solution for editing existing geometries!

We decided us to use Mobile 10, but currently I am rather dissapointed.
We have an ArcGIS ArcView desktop license and I understood, that Mobile 10 would be included. Instead I find, that
- our software constellation is not beared in mind when writing the help documents (No, we dont have ArcGIS Server...),
- because of that it was difficult to find out that I had to install a patch to create the essential global IDs,
- the management of a larger number of raster images is very inconvenient because raster catalogs are not supported (and we cant make a tiled cache without ArcGIS Server license)
- it takes very long to produce the map cache (e.g. 1.4 GB jpg-images resulting in a 0.5 GB map cache took 3 hours. We run a Phenom II X4 Processor with 4 GB ram, but obviously ArcGIS uses only one core...)

For small projects with limited data amount Mobile 10 works great for us (after I managed to work through the necessary steps, which took some time...), but not for more complex tasks and major numbers of raster images.

If I missed a solution for the mentioned problems, please tell me. Apart from that please go ahead in enhancing Mobile 10 for ArcView license holders!

Thank you,
Christiane Busch

Any update on this?  Will 10.1 be released at the same time as all the other 10.1 products?
Cheers

The latest version of Mobile will be released around the 10.1 release although it's now going to be Mobile 3.0 instead of 10.1 (to align it closer to the other mobile platform releases and break off a bit from the update cycle of the main product).

As for the functionality, the ability to recollect geometry or extend/replace portions of geometry is available in 3.0 for Windows Mobile but NOT on Windows (Tablet).

Hello all,

Just to summarize my understanding:

The current version 10 does not allow for editing of position on existing features out of the box.

The 10.1 release (Mobile 3.0) will allow moving of exiting features out of the box, on all hardware deployments except on tablet devices running windows os.

Can I edit point features position (move via screen tap or to GPS) using a tablet device (MS os) running  Mobile 3.0 if I use the sdk?  If so would the release include samples of how to do this?

Did I miss anything?

Thanks for all the updates on this item.
