How to change webmap from 'read only' to 'editable' for use in Field Maps? I have created forms using the feature layers in Feildmaps, but can't seem to enter data into Fieldmaps. I think the problem is that the web map is set to read only and I cannot figure out how to make it editable. +

I have already changed the feature layers from 'hosted' to 'hosted, view', but I can't seem to figure out to change the web map so that it is editable. Please send step by step guide! Thanks!

Hi @EmilyGeo

Yep, all those things are checked. What is interesting is that the duplicated web map has Use in ArcGIS Collector and Use in ArcGIS Fieldmaps Mobile as an option to check/uncheck whereas the original 'read only' web map only has the Use in Field Maps as an option. Not sure if that is the problem. It doesn't make any sense to me that the duplicated map would have different settings available. It would be great to solve this so in the future I don't have to duplicate every map I create to make it editable.

Hi @JCasebolt

are you the owner of the layer?

The layer owner or an administrator must change the settings for the hosted feature layer itself (not the view) to enable editing. See this help page for more details.

Yes, I am the owner. It's not a feature layer that I am having problems with it is a Web Map. I ended up duplicating the web map and for whatever reason the duplicated version is editable. Still haven't been able to figure out how to change the original Web Map from 'read only' to 'editable.'

Hi @JCasebolt

To make sure the Web map is editable in Field maps, there are some settings you can verify:

1. Ensure the 'Use in ArcGIS Field Maps' checkbox and Use in ArcGIS Collector options are ticked in the Application settings.

2. Make sure that the layers are set to be editable in the web map

Here is a thread with the solution, basically there is a bug and you have to create a new map to solve the issue. Hope this helps everyone with very frustrating issue.

The Use in ArcGIS Collector option is unavailable in a web map’s settings

Do you have an apostrophe or other special character in the title of the map? I just had a map called Tommy's Streetlight Map and I changed the title to Tommys Streetlight Map and voila! It's editable.

Don't tell my high school English teachers...

If you've made the setting adjustment of the hosted feature layer (that makes up your web map) and didn't get the outcome you're looking for, I suggest trying this...
When sharing your web map, there is a select configuration dropdown. Make sure you have that set to 'Editable' (enables editing) and not 'Exploratory.' You will still have to go into the settings of the HFL in AGOL and do the step @EmilyGeo suggested. Let us know if this worked.

Could you explain exactly where you find this "configuration dropdown"?  Logically it would be in the "Share" button of the WebMap's Overview tab, but there's nothing there except Share level (Owner,Organization,Everyone) and Grup shaing, no dropdowns. I have tried everything I could find, but still fieldmaps still lists my webmap as read-only.
