Device Tracking in Explorer?

Are there plans to build this in the future? Right now we have a Collector map with tracking enabled for road crews to take in their trucks. They aren't collecting any data - they are just using the map as reference and we use the tracking to determine where and when that truck was. Would be great to be able to make an MMPK for Explorer but then somehow have a tracking layer enabled, rather than using Collector.

There aren't plans to add tracking the way Collector had done it into Explorer, but there are exciting things coming for location tracking this year. Check out Location Tracking Debuted at Esri User Conference (July 2018).

Explorer on iOS and Android will support integration with the newly released Tracker for ArcGIS app. (Track mobile users—Tracker for ArcGIS | ArcGIS )

Our solution is for the Tracker app to be installed on the device alongside the Explorer app. If Tracker is on the device, Explorer will be able to easily overlay the tracks that are collected. In this way, you will be able to see your tracks online or offline as you view your MMPK.

Yes thank you. I'm curious how tracking with this new app will work in offline mode with an MMPK. Is it cached on the device?

Assuming if we eventually use tracker we won't need to have tracking enabled on maps for use in Collector? That would be done in this tracking app then?

Good questions. The Tracker for ArcGIS app stores all the track information locally first so it works completely offline. Opportunistically the track information is then uploaded to back end feature services when those services are accessible (e.g. you have connectivity).

Explorer will just access the local tracks stored on the device and in that way will not be dependent on a connection to the internet of the feature service which powers the overall Tracer for ArcGIS solution.
