'Service reference is invalid' error - can't figure out what's going on!

When trying to add an ArcGIS service to ArcGIS Explorer Online I get the message 'Service reference is invalid.  The service could not be added to the map'.

The service is hosted on our ArcGIS Server environment and made available via 'My Content' on my ArcGIS.com page.  I can access the service with no problems through the ArcGIS.com Map Viewer and can add it to my desktop apps (ArcInfo and ArcGIS Explorer Desktop), just not to ArcGIS Explorer Online.

The problem exists for all services running on our server, and it makes no difference if they are MSD or MXD-based.

We are running ArcGIS 10 SP1 on both the server and desktop.

Is this a Silverlight issue?  Our web admin claims that the Silverlight Client Access settings are correct (an issue for us earlier this year).

Any ideas?

Hi,

Have you checked that there is a clientaccesspolicy.xml file in the root of your webserver?

There is some more information on this issue in the Explorer Online help:

I also replied to a thread about a similar problem a while ago:
