Is there a way, in ArcGIS explorer online, to export edits made to a map back to a shapefile?  For example, say I had made a utility map and shared it with a private group.  One of the members of that group updated the location of a septic tank.  Is there a way to export that...so that the shapefile located on my hard drive reflects the new location of the septic tank?  Is this  more of a ArcGIS Server application...can it be done in ArcGIS Explorer Online?

Thanks!

Hi,
The simple answer is no this cannot be done.  Importing a shapefile is a one off shot, there is no export facility back to a shapefile and I am not aware of any plans to support this in the future.

The strategy i'd suggest would be publish a feature service from your shapefile. To do this you would need to see if you could still sign up to be a beta tester for ArcGIS for Organizations or alternatively wait for its release this year (I don't have dates). This will allow you to publish a shapefile as a hosted ArcGIS Server service and make it available for editing.
