I'm working with ArcGIS Explorer Build 1750 (which is an amazing free tool btw), and have built a custom viewer by changing the ribbon at the top, adding some Add-ins and stripping down the tools a bit, and adding relevant layer files and feature classes.
Now, the problem is, when I deploy it to my users, no matter what I do, they can only open the map that I selected in the "General" tab of the Application Configuration Manager (set to the view that I had saved) and THEY CANNOT SAVE ANY CHANGES to their map! They can open the map, zoom to different places, add notes and views, etc- and then the press "save" thinking that will save their changes, but when they open the file again, it reverts back to the map as I had created it, and everything that they did is gone!
I figure I must be missing something really obvious, because it seems so counter-intuitive that ESRI would create an application which 1) allows GIS professionals to create a custom application for users, with a toolset and set of layers customized to their needs, and 2) allows users to make changes to that map, create their personal viewing experience, adding notes and views to the map, etc, BUT not allow the users to save anything!
Upon further investigation, I have been able to save edits without using the 'Save As...' command by unchecking the box to 'Always open this map' when specifying the map to reference in the Application Configuration Manager. Please ensure that the document you are working on references the *.nfcg file as outlined in the last email.
I hope you are well. It seems as though the only way save edits to a map using an application configuration is to use the 'Save As...' command. As you have previously indicated however, this results in the loss of the application configuration. Nonetheless, you can still define the application configuration used in the original file by opening the saved document > click the ArcGIS Explorer button > Set Application Configuration > browse to the *.ncfg application configuration that you are using. This will copy the application configuration that you had previously setup to the new file.
