Explorer Desktop will not switch to 2D view

I am running version 1500 on my desktop (which also has ArcDesktop 10) and am having issues with Explorer Desktop.  It will start and run fine until I try switching to 2D mode.  Then it sits (forever), and says (Not Responding).  I've tried a full un-install, reboot, and re-install, but the same issue occurs. 

Any suggestions?

I have this same issue but I have ArcGIS Desktop 9.3.1
