When I try to add an ArcIMS server to ArcExplorer (AEJEE), I get the following error: 'Unable to connect to the ArcIMS server. (com.esri.mo2.client.io.UnabletoPingEsrimapException: Unable to ping ESRIMAP)'
The message console contains this information about the error: > Jul 28, 2010 9:18:49 AM: com.esri.mo2.client.io.BaseEsrimap java.net.UnknownHostException: hostName
I'm trying to connect to http://services.arcgisonline.com. What's odd is that I can connect through ArcGIS 9.3, but I can't connect via ArcExplorer.
Hi Sorry I just realised that you are refering to ArcExplorer which is a different (and older) product than ArcGIS Explorer. Consequently please ignore my answer above.
Thanks, Mike. I was using the correct URL, I just didn't post it correctly. And, yes, I'm using ArcExplorer Java Edition for Education, rather than ArcGIS Explorer.
The URL http://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services is for the new ArcGIS Online web services which are based on ArcGIS Server. I believe that ArcExplorer may not support ArcGIS Server and instead currently only supports ArcIMS.
It may be worth taking a look at ArcGIS Explorer to see if you can deliver your educational content with this application as if offers many new features over the older ArcExplorer. One key difference though would be Mac support, so if you need that then you should stick with ArcExplorer for the time being.
