I have successfully installed build 1500 on Windows 7 Pro.  However, when the software opens all that I see in the map display area is whatever was behind that area on my desktop.  I've tried clearing the basemap and all added content and switched between 2D/3D.  I have also uninstalled twice.  The weird thing is that if I do click in the map area I will get the information popup for my added content.

Hi,

This sounds like a graphics driver issue (there isn't any issue with Windows 7) - without knowing any details about your PC, my first suggestion would be to run the system requirements checker to confirm you meet at least the minimum spec (http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri_if/1186/10895).

Next I then suggest making sure your graphics drivers are up to date - if you've got a laptop then check the laptop-vendor website, otherwise if it's a desktop try the graphics-card-vendor website.

Thanks for your suggestions.  I checked and I am running the latest display adapter drivers.  I also ran the "Can You Run It?" utility.  On the very left side of the video card category it gave a red crossed circle and suggested I upgrade my video card.  However, under that where it lists Features: Minimum attributes of your Video Card, I have all green check marks which I think is kind of counter-intuitive.  The logical problem I'm having here is that I recently upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista where I was successfully running build 1200.  If build 1500 has higher requirements, fine, but is there a download of 1200 available?

My card, by the way, is a  Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family on an HP 6710b.

Again, thanks for the help.

I was able to find a download for build 1200...same thing.  I also tried running it in Vista SP2 Compatibility mode.  Must be an issue with my display driver.  I'll keep trying things and post back if I figure something out.

Dustin,

For ArcGIS Explorer work you'll really need to consider a dedicated graphics card rather than the on-board Intel mobile express based one you mentioned.

A little more information...  My laptop is typically on a docking station with another monitor hanging off of it.  When I open the software, it comes up on my primary (laptop) screen and I have this issue.  However, if I drag the software over to my extended monitor it works as expected.  I tried undocking and running just off of the laptop screen and it still had the issue.

I understand the recommendation of a dedicated graphics card but this is a laptop and I don't think that is an option.  Furthermore, the software previously worked with this hardware.  Having said that, this is obviously not an issue with Explorer.  Rather, it is an issue with my new combination of software.  I'll just deal with using the extended monitor or use another computer.  Thanks for the help.
