Basemaps - Opening ports for firewall

Hello

Im having trouble gaining access to the basemaps provided with ArcGIS Explorer. Since my pc was upgraded from XP to windows 7 i am unable to see any maps in the thumbnail list.

- The workstation currently sits behind a firewall manged by the domain. However as this has not changed and allowed me permission previously i doubt this is the problem.

- The specs for the machine match the requirements.

- I can connect directly to the arcgis online service --- http://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services

I have a feeling that its something to do with connecting to the XML file which connects all the basemaps on start up.

Found Here:  http://www.esri.com/software/basemaps/basemaps.xml
NOTE: I can connect to this using my browser.

I was wondering if any body else had the same trouble and had a soloution.

At the moment im having to recreate the basemaps locally and would like to avoid this.

Cheers

FYI, the workaround for this is to add the basemaps from arcGIS online, this is broken right now. . .

In fact on the support home page it states, "At ArcGIS 10.1 when adding a basemap from the "Add Basemap" Dialog in ArcMap, the coordinate system of the data frame is changed to WGS 1984 Web Mercator (auxiliary sphere) and the map display is not refreshed. For more information and workaround on this bug please see Knowledge Base Article 40396."

so this must be related somehow to the AGX problem
