Hi All ,
I am trying to recreate many of the Web AppBuilder applications- (as we all are) but my environment- is a mix of - Portal Content- Hosted Feature layers/ Feature layers content and Published Views - I also have editing groups- and the edit- function- seems to not- work- as intended /expected- and -- honestly--It is confusing-- smart forms that need to be configured- but - that means you have to disconnect the Feature layer from the other-(see image )
seems- so odd to me- why can't we have the ability to create the smart form in the map that has the Feature class -since they are stand-alone items-- " maps "- From what I have read the Map level configured Edit "smart Form ' is supposed to work as an override to the Feature class (that can have a standard template applied--)- (Think rock, paper ,scissors --)- The map template is supposed to cover the Feature Class template-- not replace it- so why do I need to disconnect the layer ? If I disconnect the layer- the changes to the main layer dont flow upwards and --if its a group layer-- which many of mine are--it is not an option ---so what am I to do with those ?

What happens to a layer if I disconnect it from its source layer? When you disconnect a layer from its source layer in ArcGIS, the layer in your map becomes independent of the source layer. This means that any future changes made to the source layer will not be reflected in your map. Here are the key points to consider:
Independence of Properties: Once disconnected, the properties of the layer in your map, such as styling or pop-ups, are stored within the map itself. Any changes you make to these properties will not affect the source layer, and vice versa.
Customization: You can customize the layer's properties, such as changing the color ramp or other styling options, without impacting the source layer. These changes are saved in the map and remain independent of the source layer's properties.
Reconnection Option: If you wish to have the layer in your map reflect future changes from the source layer, you can reset the layer to inherit properties from the source layer. This will override any custom changes you made in the map. My further ? Does this include the Map Template ?
Limitations: The ability to disconnect properties is not available for group layer items. Additionally, if you duplicate an editable feature layer, the duplicate remains editable, and changes to it will affect the source data.
Saving Changes: After disconnecting, any further changes you make to the layer properties are stored in the map and will not reflect any future updates to the source layer.(Esri Document assistant chatbot)
My further ? Does this include the Map Template ? My chatbox says
Editing Template Reset Behavior
When you reconnect a feature class to its source layer, the editing template does not automatically reset. The reset action specifically applies to the layer properties configured in the web map, such as styling or clustering settings. Reconnecting a feature class to its source layer will override any custom configurations made to the layer properties in the web map, ensuring that future changes to the source layer are reflected in the map.

-- then add in- the people aspect- checking all the different permissions and testing for all the different possible setups- I need guidance that is-geared more towards the different types of data configurations that hybrid organizations have, instead of - just the standard setup.
I wanted to update this- so that any facing the same issues - may see -- The Republishing of the Feature layer to your enterprise portal--sometimes-- resets the locked template- a few times it has not . If you have layers that were published with ARCMAP - if you republish with Pro sometimes just republishing fixes it .
Disconnecting from the FS -- does not always unlock the template - and sometimes breaks the related records feature when the published layers are multifaceted. For the times it did-- I removed from map and re-added to the map -- and that-- eliminated this problem- link was restored.
I have now rebuilt 10 of the Web app builder apps for my org. Please -DO NOT WAIT TO REBUILD --start this process by documenting what the app does while you can still see the inner workings before WEB APP BUILDER Editing/Creation access is locked to you.The behavior of the forms configured in the map --to be used with ExB and the editing widget /selection tool - and the way that forms configured in Field Maps designer is still a bit different - from each other and dependent on what Enterprise version you are using .(same with Arcade expressions ) Know what profile you are trying to use and take advantage of the AI assistants if available to help you craft the expressions you need to make these smart edits happen -- Hope this helps someone and know when you see it is locked-- you can try -- a few different things that-- on the surface sound like they will break the connection with your DBO and your information ,but that- reconnection seemed to work most of the time - when that failed- Republishing the service worked to restore the related records / table data connection. Arcade needs to pull images for the related records and hyperlinks to images.
