I have a few ExB apps that use collapsible sidebar panels to house image attachments or feature info so that the information is hidden until the user wants to see it. The only thing that indicates to the user that there is a panel there is the collapse button. I can change the colour and size of the collapse button to make it more obvious, but I still feel it is not as obvious to the user as it could be.
My idea is two-fold:
1. Allow the entry of text into the collapse button, so it can say something like "Click to see more info".
2. Enable an action on the collapse button so that it flashes a few times when a feature is selected on a map or in a list.
Yes, agree 100%. The collapse button should be as configurable as any other button with option for text and/or icon. I sometimes use the collapsible panel for app info so I set it to expand by default. If the collapse button was able to provide some content info to the user it could stay hidden until needed.
