Pretty simple question, do I need to have my data in an sde database to have feature access when publishing a feature service. I have done some searching in ESRI's provided resources (with no real luck) and also found this link that answers my question five years ago.
Do Feature Access require arcSDE geodatabase
Is this old post still correct?
Thanks,
Keith

Dear Keith
Yes you need to have enterprise geodatabase to have feature access.

You could create an enterprise geodatabase in PostgreSQL to start with.

Is there a technical reason for this? I could understand Editing but it would be very useful for read-only feature access from fGDBs. Especially as feature services are encouraged more by Esri in recent years, and provide new capabilities for web apps.
