Polygons with curves exploded into tiny line segments during migration from Desktop to Pro Enterprise

Hi, We are in the process of migrating from Desktop to Pro using Enterprise database. All my layers were moved this week. Now I'm finding that all the polygons with curves have exploded into 10-15 little line segment per curve. Also, when I create a new polygon with a true curve, save it, and then try to edit the vertices, it too has exploded into line segments. Did something go wrong when the layers were brought into the Enterprise database? Was a setting missed? Is this normal? Thank you for your responses.

Hey @SharonBogner

You may try this tool here:

https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/tool-reference/editing/simplifybystraightlinesandcircularar...

Or this one here:

https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/tool-reference/cartography/simplify-polygon.htm

Be aware both of these tools will change the data on the layer, I highly recommend exporting and testing with a few specific features before running these tools.

The many vertices may just be a downside to how nice the curve is, if you want something that is almost entirely circular or has a very nice curve to it, the amount of vertices will be very high, I've seen some projects in my organization that have had hundreds if not thousands of vertices per curve.

Could you send a screenshot of what you expect vs what you're seeing?

Hi Cody,

Thank you for responding. Here is a before and after screenshot of one of the polygons. The top one is from ArcGIS Desktop and the bottom one from Pro after the layer was moved into the Enterprise database. Editing an arc before was simple. Now I'm going to have to move a dozen vertices to change the size of the arc. (This polygon doesn't need to be edited. It's just an example.)

Hey @SharonBogner

In the Reshape tool there is an Arc Segment option shown here:

The reason it does this is because Arc Desktop had used the true curve, and ArcPro uses a vertexed curve to measure these, for example, my curve looks like this here:

After the Arc Segment reshape it looks like this:

Which is the true curve segment it appears, have you tried this yet?

Hi Cody,

I haven't tried that. Looks promising. I will give that a try Monday and let you know if it works for me. Eastern time here, so just about to head out the door. Have a good weekend. Thanks for your help.

Tru curves should not become densified. Please contact technical support to create a case.

We haven't heard about this from other customers.
