hello GIS peeps. So I have just installed 10.1 server on our test environment along with SP1. My question is I am at the step now where you are need to reauthorize our enterprise (sde gdb). First off where do I find the keycodes file. and second. If I do change the keycodes with the update key operation. Will I still be able to have access to the sde using my ArcGIS 10 environment i.e. 10 server ArcMap 10 etc.

I think this is the blog Bubba was talking about, but it is for licensing.

Updating the license for enterprise geodatabases at 10.1 - See more at: http://blogs.esri.com/esri/supportcenter/2013/06/04/updating-the-license-for-enterprise-geodatabases...

I believe it is best to upgrade the database. This blog has good information: http://esriaustraliatechblog.wordpress.com/2012/08/28/installing-arcsde-10-1-and-setting-up-a-geodat...

Go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\ESRI\License10.2\sysgen

What I do is rename the existing keycodes file, then go to Start, Programs, ArcGIS, Arcgis 10.2 for Server, Software Authorization and authorize the new license.  I rename the keycodes, because I've had problems where it doesn't update the keycodes file

Bubba, I appreciate your help. But what you just said might as well been written in Chinese because I didn't understand any of it (LOL). This is my first time installing server so this side of the gis is still a learning curve for me. I understand about where to find the keycode file. But the renaming thing confused me. Also is our sde gdb that we created with 10 going to be compatible with 10.1 or do we need to create a new one for 10.1? Again, thanks for your help and quick response.

You can even delete the existing keycodes file. You don't really have to, what you could do is try to authorize, if that fails, then delete the keycodes file and authorize again. As for SDE, there is a blog, let me try to find it.

Yes, that is the blog I was thinking about. You may run into it. You go to make a connect and are prompted for a license file. Good to know.
